The Department of Sociology, research group of Prof. Bernhard Nauck, invites applications for two positions for researchers in a research project. The work on the project is scheduled to start on January 1st, 2015: 1 Researcher (Post-Doc) (100 %, salary scale 13 TV-L) 1 Researcher (Pre-Doc) (66 %, salary scale 13 TV-L) The fixed-term contract is based on the regulations of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) and the Saxonian Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz (SächsHSFG). The research project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for 3 years. The research project is conducted in cooperation with the University of Cologne. It is part of an international research consortium, which also includes the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Oxford University, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and Beijing University. The common research topic is “life course and family dynamics in a comparative perspective”. It will be based on nationally representative large-scale panel studies of the participating countries. The work load of the two positions includes post-hoc-harmonization of the panel studies, aiming at the provision of a documented scientific-use-file to the international academic audience, significant contributions to the Chemnitz and Cologne priority research topic “transition to adulthood”, and the development of an own research agenda within this framework. The potential of this project for individual qualification is excellent because of its international visibility, the international cooperation and presentations at high ranked congresses. Applicants must have excellent skills in quantitative data analysis and interest in international comparative research. They should be able to communicate and cooperate in an international team. Mastering of Chinese would be helpful but is not a requirement. Precondition for an appointment is a master degree in social sciences for the pre-doc position and a PhD for the post-doc position. Moreover, the preconditions of § 71 Saxonian Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz (SächsHSFG) have to be met. The Technische Universität Chemnitz aims at increasing the proportion of women among its faculty.
