演講摘要：
The people power movement in 1986 may be interpreted in various ways, from a movement to remove the dictatorship at the very least, to a movement to change Filipino society in substantial ways. As such, the movement embedded a range of hopes and aspirations, some of which have been fulfilled, and others, not or not yet. My talk will focus on the major gains that have been achieved and areas that continue to cry out for attention and determined action in three areas: democracy and governance; poverty and social inequity; and conflict and peace.
講者簡介：
Dr. Maria Serena I. Diokno is currently Chairperson of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. A Professor of History at the University of the Philippines (UP), she also served as the university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs. She was one of the 12 UP Centennial Fellows chosen to lecture as part of the Centennial celebration of the Philippines' premier institution of higher learning in 2008.
Dr. Diokno is a founding member of the Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP) foundation, an organization of Southeast Asian scholars aimed at promoting Southeast Asian studies in the region. She has authored numerous local and international publications on Philippine history during the American period and Southeast Asian history. Prof. Diokno is presently involved with the Commission on Higher Education as Chair of the Technical Panel in General Education and is a consultant to the Department of Education with regard to the Social Studies curriculum of basic education. |
